John 18:15-18

Simon Peter and another disciple were following Jesus. Because the disciple was known to the high priest, he went with Jesus into the high priest’s courtyard, but Peter had to wait outside the door. The other disciple, who was known to the high priest, came back, spoke to the servant girl on duty there and brought Peter in.

“You aren’t one of this man’s disciples too, are you?” she asked Peter.

He replied, “I am not.”

It was cold, and the servants and officials stood around a fire they had made to keep warm. Peter was also standing with them, warming himself.

Peter had just got done saying he would die for Jesus…and then without hesitation denies even knowing him. He went and stood with the servants and officials around the fire. Why? Because it was cold and then fire is warm…it was more comfortable by the fire. We are always seeking more comfort. We don’t want to be too hot or too cold…we want to be comfortable. Comfort is a wonderful thing. The problem is…we also tend to seek comfort in our walk with Jesus as well. We don’t want to put ourselves in uncomfortable situations…even if it’s what we feel called to do. This is why often times we give into the temptations and ignore the calling because it’s not the most comfortable decision. Today…let’s pursue Jesus…even if that means letting go of comfort.
