Matthew 26:17-30

On the first day of the Festival of Unleavened Bread, the disciples came to Jesus and asked where He wanted them to make preparations for Him to eat the Passover.

Jesus told them to go into the city to a certain man and tell him the teacher’s appointed time is near. He is going to celebrate the Passover with His disciples at your the man’s house. So the disciples did as Jesus had directed them and prepared the Passover.

When evening came, Jesus was reclining at the table with the twelve. And while they were eating Jesus told them that one of them would betray Him.

They were sad and began to say to Him and each other they surely He doesn’t mean them.

Jesus said the one who dips his hand into the bowl with me will betray me. The Son of Man will go just as it is written about Him. But woe to the man who betrays the Son of Man! It would be better for him if he had not been born.

Then Judas said that surely He doesn’t mean him. Jesus answered that you have said so.

While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when He had given thanks He broke it and gave it to His disciples and told them to take and eat it; this is my body.

Then He took the cup, and after giving thanks, He have it to them. Drink from it, all of you. This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. I tell you, I will not drink from this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.

When they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.

What an intimate moment between Jesus and His disciples. Not only did He call out His betrayer, but He also instituted the Lord’s Supper which solidified what was getting ready to happen. Can you imagine the emotion of the disciples during this meal? Fear that they would be the betrayer…to ultimate sadness and grief from what Jesus said would be happening. All of this, for you and I to have life to the fullest. Spend time today reflecting on that sacrifice. Remember the forgiveness you have and do receive through the blood of Jesus. Love as a result of that gift today.
