Jesus comes to John seeking to be baptized by him. John, of course, doesn’t believe he should be the one baptizing him but that Jesus should be baptizing him.
Jesus explains that in order to fulfill all righteousness…everything right in the eyes of God…He must do it. So John consented.
The scene we see is the Godhead all present at the same time. God the Father speaks of this being His son and He is pleased. God the Son, who is Jesus being baptized by John. Lastly, God the Holy Spirit, who descended on Jesus like a dove.
What an awesome scene. This is like the official beginning to Jesus’ ministry on earth. This is redemption coming to fulfillment. What a powerful scene for you and I…to know all of this preparation was for us.
